In addition to being the first Canon camera with an APS-C-sized sensor to support 4K video recording, the EOS M50 – also known as the EOS Kiss M – is a sophisticated entry-level mirrorless model that stands above the entry-level M100 in terms of specifications. Even though there is a new EOS M50 Mark II model, it is virtually identical to the old model, save for a few software modifications, so don’t pass up a nice price on the original EOS M50 model!

In addition to a 3 vari-angle touchscreen display, which is great for selfies and video recording, the older camera has a centrally located 2.36million-dot electronic viewfinder (EVF) that provides a more DSLR-like shooting experience than the more recent Canon EOS M100.

The EOS M50’s sensor, which has a resolution of 24.1MP and acceptable APS-C proportions, works in conjunction with Canon’s DIGIC 8 engine to provide pleasingly clean images over the majority of its native ISO range of 100-25,600.

This resolution should be more than sufficient to fulfill the printing requirements of its intended market, while the sensor’s physical size allows it to readily create photos with a fashionably shallow depth of field without compromising image quality.

With a continuous shooting speed of 10 frames per second, the device also offers a decent continuous shooting speed. However, with a buffer capacity of just 10 Raw frames, the device’s continuous shooting speed is limited to brief bursts of shooting.

EF lenses may be used with the EOS M50, as can Canon’s specialized EOS M-mount lenses, however, an EF-EOS M converter allows you to use EF lenses with the camera as well. However, there are other independent choices from Sigma, Laowa, and others, which broaden the range of possibilities.

The system’s native lenses should be sufficient for most day-to-day and travel photography needs, but the lack of faster lenses – only one of the system’s available options has an aperture wider than f/2.8 – means that it is not quite as well suited to sports, wildlife, and low-light photography as it could be.
