Looking for the best gimbals for Canon EOS 1D X Mark III? Here are our top recommended gimbals for your Canon EOS 1D X Mark III.

At the time of this writing, the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III is the greatest DSLR currently available. Its autofocus mechanism is excellent, with just the rare glitch, and it can shoot at speeds of up to 20 frames per second. Noise is adequately controlled up to an ISO of around 51,200.

It’s large, heavy, and durable, and despite the addition of two new Smart Controllers to its back, it has a control layout that is quite similar to that of the camera it replaces.

In addition, the Nikon D6 is a very fine camera, but its Live View and video AF systems aren’t a patch on those found on the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III.

1. DJI RS 2 Combo – 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer

Two well-liked camera gimbals, the RSC2 and RS 2, each with its own perfect use cases and set of upgrades from its predecessor, received revisions from DJI this past fall. The SLR Lounge video team has had a month to work with the Ronin RS 2 and put it through its paces while producing material with Pye while we wait to use the RSC2. What makes RS 2 so different?

According to the blurbs on the packaging, it is much more powerful, can accommodate larger camera/lens combinations, and has more and better/improved features. For example, its battery life is longer, its stabilization is better, and it has better “travel/packing” options because it can fold smaller and take up less space.

2. ZHIYUN Crane 2S [Pro] Camera Gimbal Stabilizer

For the steadiest handheld video, vloggers and filmmakers need a gimbal, a motorized stabilization technology that produces results comparable to those of a Steadicam but with far less hassle (Opens in a new window). For pro-quality handheld video, the Zhiyun Crane 2S ($599) works well with SLR and mirrorless cameras. We found it to be a little bit simpler to balance than some other options, especially if you’re using a heavy full-frame camera system. It’s not as small as some others, including our Editor’s Choice winner, the $499 DJI RSC 2.

Stabilizing the gimbal

There are numerous platforms for camera stabilization. To keep your camera as stable as possible, several accessories including tripods, monopods, Steadicams, shoulder braces, and mounting plates like the Platypod(Which opens in a new window) are available. While videographers just utilize them to get rid of a few jitters and jumps, photographers employ them to get precise, blur-free results, intentional compositions, and long-exposure work.

3. MOZA Air 2 Gimbal Stabilizer with iFocusM Motor 3-Axis Handheld Stabilizers

powered by brand-new FOC algorithms and high-torque motors. All DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, and small cinema cameras like RED Camera or Blackmagic can be handled with the MOZA Air2. The MOZA Air2 can carry a variety of camera setups, including long lenses and camera accessories, with a maximum payload of 9lbs (4.2kg).

The Air2 can operate for up to 16 hours on four rechargeable 18650 Li-ion batteries. The batteries are conveniently accessible from the side of the gimbal’s handle when they do run low. The MOZA Air2 can film from dawn till dusk with a full charge.

4. Zhiyun Crane 3S 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer

The newest gimbal in the Crane series is the Zhiyun Crane 3S. Zhiyun’s most recent flagship gimbal was made using a lot of the lessons they learned while constructing the Crane 3 Lab. The ability of the Crane 3S to support camera payloads up to 6.49 kg is its key selling feature (14.3 lb).

Let’s see if the Crane 3S lives up to Zhiyun’s solid reputation for producing reasonably priced yet high-quality gimbals.

It closes the market gap.

In recent years, we have either seen one-handed gimbals made for mirrorless/DSLR cameras and smaller-sized digital cinema cameras or larger gimbals made for mid-to-large-sized digital cameras, such as the DJI Ronin 2 or Movi Pro. There wasn’t really anything that could have filled that gap.

Moza Air

The Moza Air X was perhaps one of the few exceptions. Only one other single-handed gimbal that I can think of can take payloads up to 6kg, and that’s all.

Sure, there are gimbals like the Zhiyun Crane 3 Lab, DJI Ronin-S, and Moza Air 2 that, with a little convincing, could accommodate smaller-sized digital cinema cameras, but that was not their primary purpose.

The Crane 3S fills a void between single-handed gimbals and gimbals made exclusively for use with medium- to large-sized digital cinema cameras.

5. DJI Ronin-M Helicopter

With the DJI Ronin M 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer, you can shoot handheld without having to worry about the handshake. The majority of camera combinations and types up to 8 pounds in weight are compatible with it. The Ronin M has three-axis brushless motors: one for tilt, one for pan, and one for side-to-side “roll” (maintaining the horizon level). The computer-controlled system has a control precision of 0.02°. You end up with precise camera movements and excellent photostability as a result.

6. DJI Ronin-M Gimbal Stabilizer V3 New Version

The DJI Ronin M gimbal can be used for fast-moving situations like mounting on a vehicle and other scenarios in addition to handheld filming. Tripods and other stiff camera support methods are ineffective in these situations, hence a dependable gimbal, like the Ronin M, is required for such shoots.

A camera stabilization solution from DJI called the Ronin-M 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer is intended to allow the user nearly as much freedom as unrestricted handheld shooting without the handshake. The Ronin-M uses brushless motors that operate in three axes: one for side-to-side “roll” (keeping the horizon level), one for tilt, and one for the pan. It is suitable for most camera types and setups up to 8 pounds.

7. Tilta Advanced Ring Grip for DJI RS 2 Gimbal

The gimbal’s battery handle may be moved to the top of the ring to be used as a top handle, and there are numerous mounting places all around the ring to add accessories, battery plates to power the gimbal, or a follow focus like the Tilta Nucleus-Nano.

The focus wheel on the right control handle can be used to operate your camera through the camera control port on the gimbal, while the joystick on the left control handle can be used to operate the camera’s focus, iris, and zoom features as well as move the gimbal. You can control wireless focus motors like the DJI Wireless Focus Motor using the wireless receiver that comes with the kit. To operate, each side handle needs a single 18650 battery, which is sold separately.

For static photos or while it’s not in use, you may place your rig down on a surface using the included kickstand in the ring. The gimbal disassembles into four pieces for storage and transportation.

8. 2019 DJI Ronin-S Essentials Kit 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer

The Ronin-S gimbal and other essential attachments are part of the Essentials Kit. The Ronin-S includes an angled motor arm that provides for clear screen sight while supporting up to 8 lbs. Direct camera control (using optional wires), automatic creative features like repeated tracking movement, and more are some capabilities of the gimbal.

The Ronin-S and its accessories are supported by the special foam that comes with the Nanuk case. Among its many other cutting-edge characteristics, the case’s design is impact-, dust-, and waterproof.

9. DJI Ronin-SC 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer, Grey (CP.RN.00000040.01)

Even though the Ronin-SC is smaller, it still has a ton of features, improvements to the design, and technological advancements. To produce solid 3D/360° motion shots, the gimbal has stabilization, pan, tilt, and roll control, as well as 360° continuous panning.

The gimbal is incredibly portable and makes it simpler to handle the gimbal with a mounted camera for extended periods of time thanks to its meager 2.4 lb weight. It has two locking modes for storing and balancing your camera.

The sliding quick-release camera plate makes it simple to rebalance your camera after moving to a new location. Simply balance your camera in the balancing lock position, unmount it with the plate, put the gimbal in storage mode, and travel. Once you arrive, take the gimbal out and remount your camera. Once the gimbal is unlocked and turned on, your camera will still be balanced.

10. Zhiyun Crane 2S Combo 3-Axis Camera Gimbal Stabilizer

The TransMount Mini Dual Grip Lite, a side handle that fastens to the bottom of the gimbal, and the CRANE 2S gimbal are both included in the Zhiyun-Tech CRANE 2S Combo Kit. When this extra grip is installed, two hands can be used to hold the gimbal. Numerous applications can benefit from this capacity.

The second pair of batteries from the kit is also included, giving you a total of two sets of three 18650 batteries. Each set has a 12-hour maximum runtime. You may recharge one set while working on your shot with the other using the provided triple charger.

The highly successful Crane-2’s successor, the Crane-2S, has been improved to better serve the requirements of filmmakers. The CRANE 2S can stabilize large cameras like the Blackmagic Pocket 6K, Panasonic S1H, and Canon EOS 1DX Mark II together with accessories thanks to its new-generation 9th Instune Algorithm, which increases each axis’ responsiveness. (For a complete list of cameras and lenses that are compatible, please see the Zhiyun website.)
