Combining this sensor’s capabilities with modern image processing, it is also capable of producing UHD 4K30p and Full HD 120p video, in addition to providing continuous stills shooting speeds of up to 10 frames per second.
An effective 45-point cross-type autofocus system delivers fast performance in a variety of lighting conditions, making it ideal for tracking moving subjects and working in low light. The 5481-point Dual Pixel CMOS AF system benefits live-view shooting and movie recording by delivering a smooth, natural focusing quality that is similar to the way a camcorder acquires focus, making it ideal for tracking moving subjects and working in low light.
An optical pentaprism viewfinder gives a bright, clear, and realistic viewing method hallmark of the DSLR shooting experience, and a vari-angle touchscreen LCD for intuitive control and compositional freedom complements the photographic capabilities of the camera. Additional built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections enable you to couple mobile devices with the camera and transfer files wirelessly, allowing you to share your photographs and videos on the internet.

Sensor with 32.5 Megapixels (APS-C)
The 90D is equipped with an incredibly high-resolution 32.5MP APS-C CMOS sensor, which produces images with exceptional clarity and dynamic range. It also has a wide sensitivity range of ISO 100-25600 and low noise, which allows it to be used in challenging lighting conditions. The sensor and image processor also enable the camera system to operate at high speeds throughout, including the ability to shoot continuously at up to 10 frames per second, record UHD 4K30p video and record high-speed Full HD 1080p video at 120 frames per second.
All-Cross-Type AF and Dual Pixel CMOS AF Systems with 45-Point Detection
An autofocus system that covers a large area of 45 points and is entirely cross-type delivers rapid and precise focusing in adverse lighting circumstances down to -3 EV, which is particularly useful when shooting stills through the optical viewfinder. 27 of the points are capable of focusing down to f/8 when used with telephoto lenses that have been installed with extenders, while the central dual cross-type provides enhanced precision at brighter aperture settings.
Cross-type sensor technology provides improved accuracy in low-contrast and mixed lighting environments, and the wide coverage provided by the 45 sensors is perfect for tracking and maintaining focus on moving targets. Four different AF area selection modes are available, including single-point AF, Zone AF (where you can choose from nine different AF zones), Large Zone AF (which allows you to choose from three different selectable zones), and 45-point AF auto selection (which allows the camera to select a single point automatically).
When recording video or shooting in live view, a Dual Pixel CMOS AF system is used, which has 5481 customizable focusing points and may be used to capture sharp images. This focusing technology provides smooth and rapid focusing performance in a way comparable to that of a camcorder, which is similar to how a camcorder obtains focus. When two independent photodiodes are integrated into each pixel, a large and dense network of phase-detection collecting components is created across a majority of the image sensor, which reduces focus chasing and allows for faster, more direct control of focus placement.
Although it is designed for still pictures, this focusing system is equally adept at acquiring critical focus on moving things, making it particularly well suited for shooting and monitoring moving subjects to ensure that critical focus is achieved with each shot. Using Movie Servo Autofocus when recording video, you may achieve smooth and natural focusing when switching between several objects of varying distances within a scene.
You can also customize the tracking sensitivity and speed, as well as the importance is given to Face Tracking when shooting video. Rack focus is made possible thanks to the Touch AF technology, which allows you to adjust the focus by merely touching anything within the scene on the touchscreen in an easy manner. It is also possible to achieve better subject tracking in movies, thanks to the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system’s ability to detect subjects and keep focus even while operating in rapidly changing or crowded environments.
Design of the body and wireless connectivity
- Touchscreen The 3.0″ 1.04m-dot LCD monitor has a vari-angle design that allows it to be used from both high and low angles, and the touchscreen design allows for easy control over menu navigation and touch-to-focus operation, among other things.
- When shooting at eye level, the pentaprism type optical viewfinder provides 100 percent frame coverage, resulting in exceptional compositional accuracy and a more natural shooting experience. Further assisting with shooting through the viewfinder are AF points and mode selections, compositional grids, a horizontal electronic level, and other helpful features that may be displayed while the camera is in use.
- The LP-E6N battery, which is included, has a capacity of about 1300 shots per charge.
- Canon Camera Connect app allows for easy wireless sharing of photos and videos to a linked mobile device, while built-in Wi-Fi allows for quick image sharing between devices and remote control capabilities when using the Canon Camera Connect app. Bluetooth connectivity allows for quick image sharing between devices and remote control capabilities when using the Canon Camera Connect app. Additionally, this program allows for a mobile raw-editing process, which allows for additional post-production flexibility.

Verdict
In live view, the Canon EOS 90D is a DSLR that, because of its superb Dual Pixel AF technology, performs at its highest level of reliability. In comparison, autofocus through the viewfinder is less accurate. As well as offering outstanding RAW image quality and useable full-width 4K video, the camera comes in a well-built, weather-sealed housing with superb ergonomics.
