The FUJIFILM X100V is a versatile, volant, and viable camera that is the fifth generation of the X100 series. It combines impressive imaging capabilities with a distinctive design that includes an appropriate prime wide-angle lens, as well as a flexible feature set that can accommodate a wide range of shooting needs. The X100V is equipped with an APS-C-format 26.1MP X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor, which has been proven and highly regarded.
It is capable of high-resolution recording as well as support for DCI/UHD 4K video, sensitivity ranging from ISO 160 to 12800, and continuous shooting up to 11 frames per second with the mechanical shutter. Due to its backside illumination (BSI) architecture, the sensor produces less noise while maintaining overall clarity.
When combined with the X-Processor 4, the sensor achieves rapid performance and better responsiveness. Additionally, the sensor’s architecture allows for a hybrid autofocus system, which combines 425 phase-detection points with a contrast-detection system to provide fast and precise AF performance.
Aside from the image capabilities, the X100V keeps the tried-and-true rangefinder-inspired body style that has made this line of cameras so distinctive. This time around, the famous Advanced Hybrid Viewfinder is employed, but this time it has been upgraded to a higher resolution 3.69m-dot OLED EVF for better viewing clarity. This may still be flipped aside to show a clear 0.52x-magnification optical finder, which is ideal for those who want to picture in the traditional manner.
The finder is complemented with a 3.0″ 1.62m-dot LCD touchscreen, which has a two-way tilting design that allows it to be used from both high and low angles. Then there’s the highly coveted built-in wide-angle primary lens, which has a handy 35mm-equivalent focal length and a brilliant f/2 maximum aperture while maintaining a small footprint.
This lens has been updated in comparison to earlier versions to provide a clearer picture with less distortion, and tighter focusing, and, physically, it completes a weather-resistant construction when you install the optional adapter ring and an optional protective filter. Aside from that, the X100V has built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, which allows for wireless picture transmission to a mobile device as well as remote camera control from a smartphone or tablet device.
26.1MP APS-C X-Trans BSI CMOS 4 Sensor and X-Processor 4
Its sensor is an APS-C-format 26.1MP X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor with a back-illuminated design, which provides smooth tone rendering, better low-light performance, and a broad native sensitivity range of ISO 160-12800. The camera is built around this very adaptable sensor.
X-Trans sensors also employ a randomized pixel array; this, together with the lack of an optical low-pass filter, allows for excellent image clarity and sharpness, as demonstrated by the Canon EOS 5D Mark III. By mimicking the organic nature of film rather than traditional pixel patterns, the X-Trans design produces more nuanced colors and tonal transitions while also eliminating moiré and other artifacts.
Another feature included in the sensor design is a new phase-detection focusing system with 425 customizable points that covers almost the full sensor surface. A quicker and more accurate focusing performance is provided by this autofocus technology in a variety of lighting settings down to -5 EV. In addition to the image and focusing capabilities, the camera system is equipped with a new X-Processor 4, which features a quad-core CPU and offers quicker, more responsive performance across the system.
UHD and DCI 4K Video Recording
A diverse array of video capabilities, including inbuilt DCI/UHD 4K recording at up to 30 frames per second and Full HD recording at up to 120 frames per second, allow the X100V to go beyond its still-photography roots.
The speed of the X-Processor 4 has a significant impact on overall video performance since it allows for faster read rates while recording video and reduces rolling shutter distortion when capturing moving objects, both of which are highly beneficial. In addition, a micro-HDMI connector allows for 10-bit 4:2:2 recording to an optional external recorder via an HDMI cable.
Redesigned Fujinon 23mm f/2 Lens
The Fujinon 23mm f/2 lens has been redesigned.
With the introduction of the upgraded Fujinon 23mm f/2 lens, the optical design has been altered to incorporate two aspherical elements, which provide increased sharpness and clarity through the elimination of spherical aberrations and distortion.
Due to the lens’s 23mm focal length, which is comparable to a 35mm lens, it is a comfortable wide-angle primary lens that is well-suited to a wide range of shooting circumstances and conditions. The brilliant f/2 design is also well-suited for working in a variety of lighting circumstances, and it allows for better control over the depth of field, which aids in focusing on certain subjects. Additional coatings, such as a Super EBC coating, have been used to reduce lens flare and ghosting, resulting in improved contrast and color accuracy while working in bright lighting settings.
The X100V has a fixed focal length, but it has 50mm and 75mm-equivalent Digital Teleconverter settings to give the appearance of working with a longer focal length. The lens is also compatible with the optional WCL and TCL attachment lenses, which can be used to expand or reduce the effect field of view.
Viewfinder with Hybrid Technology for Advanced Applications
The Advanced Hybrid Viewfinder incorporates both optical and electronic viewfinder types, allowing you to choose between the simplicity and familiarity of an optical viewfinder and the versatility of an electronic viewfinder. The dedicated finder switching lever, located on the front of the camera body, makes moving between viewing modes a breeze.
The 0.52x magnification optical viewfinder gives a crisp, lifelike picture of the scene, allowing for better composition and subject tracking during the photography process. An Electronic Rangefinder function, which mimics the functionality of a mechanical rangefinder, has been integrated into the camera’s improved design, and information from the electronic viewfinder is simultaneously overlaid on top of the information from the optical viewfinder to allow for comparative manual focus adjustment.
For the electronic viewfinder, this OLED has a high 3.69 million dots resolution and a quick refresh rate, which reduces latency and allows for better planning and tracking motions while recording. When using the EVF, you may preview exposure settings prior to shooting, and the screen can be customized so that you can choose how much and what kind of information is presented.
