The Leica M9 / M9-P is an M-mount full-format digital rangefinder camera. It is equipped with an 18-megapixel CCD sensor that was designed exclusively for this camera. This sensor allows for the capture of the entire 35-mm format (24×36 mm) in extremely high quality.
The Leica M9 and M9-P both are equipped with a brand new metal-leaf focal-plane shutter that is controlled by a microprocessor, is exceptionally quiet, and can achieve shutter speeds of up to 1/40,000 of a second. Even when working in bright conditions, this enables the photographer to keep their full range of creative options open by allowing them to use selective focus at the largest apertures.
The Leica M9 has been improved marginally with the introduction of the Leica M9-P. The LCD screen is protected by a sapphire crystal cover that is incredibly resistant to scratches and nearly impossible to shatter. The vulcanite leathering of the M9-P has exceptional grip properties, making it a very desirable option.
Instead of having a red dot on the front of the camera, the M9-P now has a restrained Leica logogram on the top deck of the camera. This makes photography even less noticeable. And this makes it even less obvious to others.
