Nikon D40

A tiny and lightweight design, the Nikon D40x SLR Digital Camera offers exceptional quality and an expansive ISO sensitivity range, all while being extremely compact and lightweight.

Combined with Nikon’s proprietary 3D Color Matrix Metering II and an enhanced Nikon Image Processing Engine, the 10.2-megapixel DX-format CCD image sensor produces spectacular picture quality with precise exposure, a larger ISO sensitivity range of 100-1600, and natural, precisely recreated colors.

The camera can power on in less than 0.18 seconds and capture images almost instantly, with virtually no shutter delay, as opposed to the typical shutter delay associated with point-and-shoot digital cameras. It can also shoot up to 3 images per second, non-stop for up to 100 shots.

The camera can be charged in less than 0.18 seconds. The D40x also has excellent power efficiency, letting it to capture up to 520 photographs on a single charge.

User-friendly Digital Vari-Program modes on the D40x allow photographers to capture practically any sort of scenario without having to learn the ins and outs of photography or fiddle with camera settings. The D40x comes with eight pre-programmed settings, one of which is Flash Off mode.

The camera’s advanced features, such as Aperture-priority and Shutter-priority modes, become available to users as they get more skilled with it. These modes allow users to have greater creative control over the appearance and feel of their photographs.

In addition to menu options and pictures in playback mode, the large and bright 2.5-inch color LCD screen on the back of the D40x displays the visually-intuitive information display system that presents camera and shooting information in a user-friendly, graphical manner, and a built-in help menu with Assist Images, which helps you select the most suitable setting by displaying a sample image that illustrates the effect and potential use of the setting in question.

As soon as you’re through shooting, the Retouch menu provides access to proprietary in-camera picture editing options that allow you to express yourself more freely without the need for a computer. Nikon’s D-Lighting technology, which brightens gloomy images, and an automatic Red-eye correction option are both included in the Retouch menu of the camera.

Image Overlay, Small Picture, Monochrome (including black-and-white, sepia, and cyanotype) and Filter Effects are some of the other creative options available (Skylight, Warm filter, Color balance). It has never been easier to print a photo once you have shot it and done all of the necessary edits.

Because the camera is PictBridge compatible, you can simply connect the camera to a PictBridge compliant printer and print your favorite images – all without the need for a computer.

Extraordinary image quality is achieved by using a 10.2 Megapixel resolution.

The Nikon D40x’s high-resolution image quality is made possible by Nikon’s high-performance 10.2 megapixel Nikon DX-format CCD imaging sensor and unique Nikon image processing engine, which produces images with remarkable clarity and color.

In addition to producing stunningly detailed enlargements up to 20 x 30 inches and beyond, the 10.2-megapixel resolution allows for more creative cropping of the image after it is taken.

Camera Body that is both compact and lightweight

With a weight of little over 16 ounces, the attractively designed and small D40x makes high-performance digital SLR photography more accessible and easy than ever before. The camera body is ergonomically designed to suit your hand precisely, and the grip and design are well-balanced to provide for simple access to the camera settings.

Excellent Showmanship

When paired with the camera’s super-fast shutter reaction and rapid-action photography at up to 3 frames per second, it becomes simple to record exceptional moments in time and film high-quality action sequences of children at play, and athletic events such as soccer or baseball, and other activities.

Nikkor lenses are compatible with this camera.

Each and every Nikon AF-S/AF-I Nikkor lens is designed to function smoothly with the D40x, and each Nikon lens is built with the finest optics and precise mechanics to deliver optimal performance for crisp, consistent results (Autofocus is supported only with AF-S and AF-I CPU lenses, which are equipped with an autofocus motor).

Autofocus in three areas is quick and accurate.

The superior 3-area AF system makes use of Nikon’s patented three-area Multi-CAM 530 AF Sensor Module, as well as enhanced algorithms inherited from more modern Nikon digital SLR cameras, to produce quick, efficient, and precise focusing performance in a variety of lighting conditions. Increased accuracy is achieved by faster, more consistent subject acquisition and enhanced focus tracking, resulting in consistently clearer photographs.

3D Color Matrix Metering II (also known as 3D Color Matrix Metering I and II).

To achieve optimal results, Nikon’s proprietary 3D Color Matrix Metering II immediately analyses the brightness, contrast, and colors of each shooting setting and compares it to a built-in database of over 30,000 shooting scenarios to compute correct exposures.

In addition, for more specific applications, center-weighted and spot metering are both accessible options to choose from.

A broad range of ISO sensitivity

Because the Nikon D40x’s ISO sensitivity can be adjusted from 100 to 1600, it is capable of capturing excellent photographs in a variety of tough low-light scenarios without the need for a flash.

The camera has several other settings, including a HI-1 setting that provides up to 1EV stop above ISO 1600 and a Flash-Off Mode that turns off the camera’s flash while increasing the ISO, allowing users to take pictures in situations where flash photography is not allowed or is inappropriate, or when they prefer the look of naturally lit photographs.

Digital Vari-Program Modes that are simple to utilize

With the eight simple-to-use Digital Vari-Program settings, you can take better pictures in practically any circumstance. Each of the eight modes is meant to compute the optimal parameters for your picture on its own, without the need for human intervention.

To use the camera, just choose one of the preset settings (Auto, Auto Flash-OFF), and the camera will adjust itself automatically for the best possible results. Portrait, landscape, child, sports, close-up, and night portrait are all available.

It has an integrated Speedlight with i-TTL automatic flash control.

The auto-pop-up window The use of flash creates a stunning and natural-looking scene by providing exactly the appropriate amount of light. To achieve superior automated flash balancing and provide amazing images, the Nikon i-TTL flash control uses a revolutionary algorithm that analyses flash exposure with remarkable precision.

When shooting in low light, the built-in Speedlight produces gorgeous exposures. It may also be used to add glitter to fill-flash in outdoor circumstances, improve twilight photographs, or boost the impact of daytime images. Simply add an optional Nikon Speedlight, such as the Nikon SB-400, to your flash setup to increase your shooting range and creativity.

Remote control with infrared technology is available as an option.

When taking self-portraits, the optional Wireless Remote Control ML-L3 may be used as a remote shutter release to avoid camera shaking produced by pressing the shutter release button.

SLR Viewfinder with Excellent Contrast and Accuracy

The Nikon D40x’s big and clear viewfinder delivers 0.8x magnification, which aids in the creation of perfect compositions. Additionally, the overall viewfinder brightness makes focusing in low-light circumstances simpler.

Color LCD Monitor with a 2.5-inch screen

With a wide and brilliant color LCD panel, playback visuals are easy to see, and function menus are simple to navigate through the display. In addition to allowing for picture preview at up to 19 times magnification, the 2.5-inch LCD monitor also has big type fonts and easy-to-read menus, as well as three different display options: Classic, Graphic, and Wallpaper.

The huge LCD color monitor, on the other hand, is ideal for studying image details or just exhibiting freshly captured photographs to friends and family members.

Help Menu System with Advanced Features

By pressing a single button, the D40x’s built-in Help Menu system delivers guidance and directions for every camera option available.

Press the “?” button on the camera’s rear and you’ll get thorough information on certain functions shown on the LCD panel, ensuring that you’re always prepared for anything that may come your way. Furthermore, helpful “assist pictures” aid you in selecting the most appropriate location for your photograph.

Image Editing Right in the Camera

In-camera effects that are quite flexible In addition to Nikon D-Lighting, Red-Eye Correction, Image Trimming, Image Overlay, Monochrome (Black and White, Sepia and Cyanotype), Skylight, Warm Tone, and Color Balance filter effects are included in the retouching menu of the camera. For people who want to transmit photographs straight to a printer rather than using a computer, these capabilities allow for greater creative flexibility without the need for a computer.

Battery with a long life span

The EN-EL9 Rechargeable Lithium-ion Battery allows you to capture up to 520 photos in single-frame shooting mode (according to CIPA standards), while the optional EH-5 AC Adapter allows you to use the camera for even extended periods of time by providing additional power (an AC Adapter Connector EP-5 is required, available separately).

PictureProject Software is included in the price.

PictureProject, which comes pre-installed on the D40x and is meant to be a simple, intuitive, and seamless experience, is suitable for digital photographers of any ability level. Its sophisticated features allow you to really explore digital imaging without the need to prepare for a certification exam.

When used with a personal computer, it dramatically facilitates image transmission and sharing while also allowing you to do simple post-production adjustments. Memory card data may be simply transferred to your computer, and photographs can be rapidly printed, emailed, or shared to a photo-sharing website within minutes of being captured.

With Capture NX Software, you can process your photographs like a pro (optional)

Photographers will appreciate Nikon’s groundbreaking Capture NX software, which provides them with an unprecedented level of control over their photographs.

Because of Nik Software’s patented U Point Technology, Capture NX automates all of the calculations for you, making it the first fully useful editing photography software for photographers of all skill levels.

Direct printing simplifies the process of photo printing.

The Nikon D40x is capable of direct printing via the PictBridge interface. The camera can be connected to a Pictbridge compatible printer with the provided USB cable, allowing you to print photographs straight from your camera, eliminating the need for a computer.
